i just joined goodreads.com. it's a great site to see what your friends are reading and stuff if you're into it. hmmm. i love anything by lorrie moore, sherman alexie and haruki murakami. of those three i'd say alexie's books are best for a plane becuase they aren't convoluted or not hard to follow.

what do you like?

my all-time favorite books: Winter's Tale by mark Helprin (or A Soldier of the Great War by the same), A Trip to the Stars by Nicholas Christopher, Miss Garnet's Angel by Sally Vickers, The Love Artist by Jane Allison

All older but SO good. If you like cozy mysteries, I am a big fan of M.C. Beaton's Agatha Raisin and Haimish MacBeth series... And Elizabeth Peters Vicky Bliss mysteries too.

Good luck and happy flight! If you read something great, please share...

Try Yes Man by Danny Wallace, its brilliant and it really is a laugh out loud book as well as making you think about things in a new way. Id love to hear what you think if you read it.

Are you There Vodka? It's me Chelsea by Chelsea Lately is laugh out loud funny. For something interesting, try Necklace of Kisses by Francesca Lia Block. Deep: Jayber Crow by Wendell Berry.

i just finished "extremely loud and incredibly close" and i loved it. i also loved both of these barbara kingsolver books: 'prodigal summer' and 'the poisonwood bible'

i vote for "no one belongs here more than you" by miranda july. i think that would be a good plane read. or, "in the freud archives," janet malcolm... that's a classic i've been hearing a lot about lately...

omg you guys are all so awesome! i'm writing a list and bringing it to the bookstore with me tomorrow. i'll report back with what i read and how i liked it!

and linda i've gotten invites for good reads but i was worried adding another social networking site to my life would keep me in front of a computer even more. but maybe i'll check it out!

also a friend just reminded me of this site: http://litmob.com/
i just signed up for their newsletter.

thanks for all the suggestions!

If you haven't yet, Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert is a must. Zippy by Haven Kimmel is laugh out loud funny. I've heard that Sarah Vowell's books are great too.

My current favorite is Margherita Dolce Vita by Stefano Benni

"brief interviews with hideous men" by david foster wallace. this is a good place to start if you have never read any of his books. his books make me laugh and i am so sad about his recent passing.
